Making Connections

Small Groups are one of the most vital ways we accomplish our mission to "love people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ".

Our small groups exist to connect people relationally in order to:

  • Help each person grow as a follower of Jesus Christ
  • Help each person experience God’s guidance, healing and protection through prayer
  • Help each person discover a way to make a difference in the world
  • Help each person experience authentic community

In our Adult Ministry, there are two distinct types of small groups: Serve Teams and Grow Groups.

Serve Teams are small groups that meet for the primary purpose of accomplishing a specific ministry. As they serve together, team members build friendships and experience the thrill of knowing God is using them to accomplish His purpose. It is our privilege (and duty) to help you find a place to serve that matches your spiritual gift with a ministry need. Click here for a directory of the serve teams. You may contact the leader listed under the area you are interested in for more information or contact serve@parkwayumc.org.

Grow Groups focus on spiritual growth, prayer and caring for each other. They meet at least every other week, have a regular outreach focus, and typically, include studying the Bible in their regular activities. Our studies are coded as follows to help you choose a group you will be comfortable stepping into:

  • 101 For people new to the faith or still investigating Christianity. No Bible knowledge/familiarity needed. Basic Bible truths with little or no homework expected .
  • 201 For people who desire to grow in their faith and ability to apply Biblical truths. Topical Bible study or focus on specific Bible passages or books. Little or no homework expected.
  • 301 For those who desire deeper discipleship and understanding of God’s Word. Bible reading/study on your on is expected and typically there is either a fee for enrolling in the class, or a cost for purchasing study materials.

This fall we are doing a church-wide focus on the book of 1 John. Click here to view the available 1 John Studies. For more information contact Pastor Marty Vershel.
