Brush with Greatness
Since the Fall of Adam and Eve, humanity has struggled with a yearning that we cannot often explain or even put into words. This yearning has been a theme among singers and musicians, poets and authors, artist and even theologians.
In Hebrew Scripture, the Psalmist captures this yearning: “I lift my eyes up to the hills; from whence does my help come?” Some 2000 years ago, Jesus said: “Come unto me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest for your tired souls”. More than 1500 years ago, St. Augustine diagnosed the human problem when he said to God: “You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they find their rest in you”. And about 1500 years after Augustine, Bono, the lead singer for U2, sang, “Looking for to save my soul, looking in the places where no flowers grow, looking for to fill that God-shaped hole.” Bono is picking up here on a contemporary expression of the yearning in the human heart which drives us on our spiritual quest: a God-shaped hole in the human heart.
You and I are worshippers. You see, we are wired and created to worship. We all worship something or someone. The only question is what or who will we worship. The Revolutionary knows that we were made to worship God! Make plans to be with us this Sunday to worship with us and allow God to fill your God-shaped hole.
Do You Have A “Brush with Greatness” Story?
Years ago, David Letterman had a segment of his show called, "Brush with Greatness," where the audience would get to share their stories of encounters with famous people. So in the spirit of David Letterman, I ask you, "What is your brush with greatness?" Feel free to send it to me.
A New Group for Couples!
Rick and Laura Figueroa have begun a new group for couples. The group meets on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm at their home. This group is studying a great book, The Language of Love and Respect by Emerson Eggerichs. Yes, we know they live in Katy but it is worth the drive. For more information or directions contact Rick or Laura. The Figueroa’s are providing childcare at their home.
Pack 616 Award of Excellence
Congratulations to Cub Scout Pack 616 for receiving the Award of Excellence for their 2009/2010 program! Only 3 (out of 43) Packs in the North Star District received this recognition. The award is based on the criteria of holding family camping events, providing noteworthy service projects, and training excellence (100% of Pack 616’s leaders completed their required training this year!). According to Committee Chair Gary Ray, having a visibly active chartering organization also weighs into the decision. Parkway charters Pack 616, which provides the scouting experience to 99 boys and over 40 leaders. For more information about scouting at Parkway, contact our Scouting Ministries Specialist, David Throgmorton.

Following the Light
We are looking for a couple of “techie” dads to help us prepare for one of our Easter lessons for our 1st – 4th graders. You will be acquiring (and paying for J) light bulbs, batteries, wires and switches, then assembling this into a kit for the children’s lesson about following the light of Jesus. Ideally, you would also attend the science workshop the week it is presented to provide the teacher with your technical expertise as they present the lesson. Contact Mrs. Valerie to offer your help.

Introducing Parkway Day School
The precise balance of academic and spiritual elements... that’s what makes Parkway...God’s way.
Parkway Day School provides a licensed weekday ministry offering preschool children opportunities to develop intellectually, physically and emotionally in a Christian environment. In this setting, Parkway preschoolers will discover the beauty of God’s world and wonders of His love. They will learn in a play based program under the direction of qualified Christian instruction. The teachers will plan activities that meet and often exceed the physical, mental, social and most importantly the spiritual needs of its preschoolers.
Ages and classes: The program offers classes for children from 2 years to Pre-K. Classes are divided into the following age groups: 24 - 30 months, 2 ½ - 3 ½ years, 3 ½ - 4 ½ years, 4 - 5 years Pre-K Prep, 5+ years - Bridge Class
Each class is structured in centers, which make learning fun through experiencing rather than listening. These experiences facilitate language, social, motor and spiritual growth. Themes are selected by our teachers monthly, which provide opportunities for the growth of each child. Each theme ties into a Christian message which is reinforced throughout the month. Both academic and spiritual elements are explored, experienced and reinforced.
In addition, the Parkway Day School curriculum includes time for the children to experience chapel, computer, music and Spanish classes, as well as a variety of special events and activities.
