Pastor's Update

04/15/2010

The Revolutionary Way is a process built right here at Parkway to intentionally and clearly understand where we are spiritually and what is available here for each of us to take a step forward spiritually.

We have identified three basic places people may be in their spiritual journey:
• The Foundational Faith place
• The Growing Faith place
• The Deepening Faith place

No one at Parkway can tell you what place you belong. No list will be kept, pigeonholing people into boxes and categories. Rather, we each get to determine where we seem to be by a simple self-test.

Once you have found where you likely are - do not remain there! Take a step forward…be a revolutionary!

Some functions are available this summer at each place in faith development for you to take a step forward, to grow spiritually. These are good places to start based on the faith place you feel you are, but are not only for people at that faith place. Plug in anywhere you feel comfortable.

Lectio Divina is back by popular demand!

Wednesday April 28, 6:00PM - 6:30PM, Chapel
Join us for this special time of God leading and speaking in our hearts. Many of you experienced the uplifting and peaceful time of Lectio Divina during Holy Week. Lectio Divina is an ancient spiritual practice from the Christian monastic tradition. Its title derives from the Latin words meaning “reading” and “divine/holy.” We seek to experience the presence of God through reading and listening, meditation, prayer, and contemplation. Childcare provided in Ministry Building Room 168.

Spring Luncheon with Susan O’Donnell!

Join us on Saturday May 8th in the Worship Center for lunch and Christian comedienne, national speaker and radio personality Susan O’Donnell! Susan O'Donnell has been in broadcasting for 25 years now...nine of it in secular radio in Oklahoma, Nebraska and Iowa...then, sixteen years ago God brought her to Houston to work with the Dove award winning #1 Christian Station in the Country. Susan is Assistant Program Director and Co-Host of KSBJ's Morning Show with Mike and Susan. She is a national speaker who travels the country using stand up comedy and song to remind people to Lighten Up! She's traveled to Nashville, Florida, Chicago, and New York-all while keeping her on air schedule every morning at KSBJ. Susan appeared at The Improv, and she's also opened for secular artists like Johnny Rivers at the Arena Theatre in Houston...to Christian artists like Kathy Troccoli, Avalon, Phillips Craig and Dean and Bob Carlisle.

Susan will talk about “How can we be the light of the world if we’re too afraid to Lighten Up?” Tickets are $25 each and will be sold between services on 4/18, 4/25 and 5/2. You can also purchase tickets online through Parkway’s website. Child care is available by reservation only. H.O.M.E. Project

Saturday April 24th
Can you spend one Saturday showing God's love to your neighbor? No experience required since “One carpenter can make a difference”. Each spring since 1995 a group of volunteers donate their time, skills and money to have a lot of fun repairing the homes of our neighbors who are having financial difficulties, senior citizens on fixed incomes, or just those who have no means of fixing their homes. Skill is not necessary if you are enthusiastic! Find out more and sign up yourself, family, and Grow Group for Parkway's Team at http://www.umhomeproject.org, or contact Kip Dornhorst.

This excellent Christian camp in Huntsville has partnered with Parkway to provide our children with a meaningful summer camp experience for nearly half the cost of sending your child to camp on your own; only $300 for a full Sunday through Saturday camp!!! At this low rate, perhaps you can scholarship your child’s unchurched friend! We do not accompany the children to camp, but all the children enrolled under Parkway’s name will be grouped together for the week. Parents must provide transportation to and from the camp. This camp session is open to ages 6-13. Register and pay online and be sure to spread the word and invite your child’s friend to attend as well.

From Matthew Scribe

As many of you may know, I have been fund raising for the National MS Society for the past six years, and as you may have guessed, I've signed up for my seventh MS 150 for this April 17th and 18th. The MS 150 is a bike ride that covers the approximately 170 miles from Houston to Austin over 2 days to promote awareness and raise money towards finding a cure and providing support for the 20,000 families in Texas alone affected by Multiple Sclerosis, including both counseling and medication support.

This year is my senior year in high school, so it may be my last ride for a while. In an effort to impact both my world and the world of those around me one last time, I've set 2 major goals for the MS 150:

1. Do the both days with only 1 stop - lunch; other than that, straight through to Austin!
2. Raise over $2,000 dollars to help the thousands of Texans who suffer from Multiple Sclerosis.

Number 1 is all on me, but I need help from you, my friends, to raise money to help stop Multiple Sclerosis. For those of you who don't know, Multiple Sclerosis is a neurological disease affecting both muscle control and brain activity. It's effect can range from being unnoticeable to paralysis, and doctors still haven't found a cure.

The MS 150 and all that it stands for is something that I've been a part of for seven years, and I'd love to have you join me. All donations are tax deductible. I accept cash, checks made out to the "National MS Society," and credit donations made online at http://main.nationalmssociety.org/goto/scribe by clicking on the donate button.

Yours In Service,
Matthew Scribe
